Robert Sarver and Lance Blanks

Originating in 1968, the Phoenix Suns have been a proud and successful NBA franchise for more than forty years. While the Suns have yet to win the NBA Championship, they’re one of the most highly regarded franchises in the league with their exciting style and history of popular players. In the spring of 2004, former majority owner Jerry Colangelo sold the franchise, which he has owned since its inception, to Robert Sarver, a successful banker in the state of Arizona.

Sarver, shortly after purchasing the Phoenix Suns, helped build a successful and incredibly exciting team, lead by head coaches Mike D’antoni. Terry Porter (briefly), and currently Alvin Gentry. Since his ownership of the franchise, the Suns have featured popular players, an up-tempo style, and one of the leagues highest winning percentages. Robert has received unfounded criticism from some fans and media members, but there’s no arguing with his results. He has consistently helped build successful teams, doing his best to acquire quality players to help chase the championship. (Steve Nash, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire, and Grant Hill, for example.)

This past season Sarver hired former NBA guard, and GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lance Blanks as the new GM of the Phoenix Suns. Blanks may be best known for his stint as a the director of scouting with the San Antonio Spurs. Blanks helped build a dominate Spurs team who, ironically, frequently eliminated the Suns from the playoffs. In his brief time with the Suns he has helped acquire talented players in an effort to continue the winning tradition in Phoenix. The most notable new additions are Hedo Turkoglu, Josh Childress, and Hakim Warrick.

Under the leadership of owner Robert Sarver and new GM Lance Blanks, the Suns are primed to continue their winning ways.
